The Algarve

With over 8 million visitors a year, Portugal’s Algarve is one of the world’s most popular holiday destinations, fuelling a property investor’s buy to let paradise. The Algarve has a strong expat English community. The main airport serving the Algarve is Faro, and it enjoys a very good infrastructure including excellent motorways plus good trains, buses and taxis. There are several Michelin–starred restaurants and the visitor is spoiled for choice as far as options for eating out are concerned, with French, Mexican, Chinese, Thai and Italian cuisine just a few of the available options. And of course, there is golf – lots of it, with nearly 30 18-hole courses.
The Algarve enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year, with temperatures reaching 32°C in summer and dropping to a mild 10C in winter. With over 100 beaches – 59 of which have Blue Flags – it is the perfect choice for sun seekers. The Algarve boasts some amazing nightlife, and is also a shopper’s paradise with thousands of designer shops. There are five-star hotel resorts, casinos, long promenades, pleasure harbours, yacht clubs and classy marinas offering all manner of diversions. Add to this ancient historic sites, museums, castles and some of the coast’s famous towns and resorts including Albufeira, Vilamoura, Vale do Lobo, Tavira and Lagos, and there’s plenty to keep the visitor occupied.
The Silver Coast

Temperatures in summer rarely rise above 30C due to the cooling breezes from the sea, while in winter the average temperature is 15°C by day and 8°C by night.
There are dozens of Blue Flag beaches, very good nightlife, and great restaurants offering some of the finest seafood, fresh from the ocean. It is a nature lovers’ paradise, and the area also boasts ancient historic sites, museums and castles. The most important ceramics centres in Portugal are located here, in Peniche and Caldas da Rainha. There are also several thermal baths, and an increasing number of Championship-standard golf courses.
