Past, Present & Future
Over the past 30 years, Portugal has become a preferred holiday destination and the Algarve region has become a home location for many expats form the UK. Construction qualities have improved over the years, providing better quality properties to match the demands of the standards expected in the growing market.
These days many construction companies are moving away from the high rise buildings that were popular in the 1960s and many more luxury features are being found in newer developments. As golfing has become a mark of the touristic market and also a preferred requirement of the immigrant population, especially those from northern parts of Europe, the coastal areas of Portugal have become famed for the high quality of the golf courses available.
The early 90’s saw revisions in the planning regulations allowing for new developments to become more aesthetically pleasing, this caused a decline in the number of buildings being constructed simply for the purpose of making money from the increasing demand of the real estate investment market, however it also caused an increase in the capital appreciation of the properties built to the new regulations. Some areas of Portugal are still receiving over 15% capital appreciation per annum due to the adaptations for sustainable growth.
